Don't chase a universal number. Drink to thirst under ordinary conditions and adapt for heat, exercise, or illness; if you have medical fluid guidance, that takes priority.

More is not always better: very large volumes consumed quickly can dangerously dilute blood sodium. Do not force fluids to hit a target.
